Jeri Landers is a self-taught artist incorporating the mediums of watercolor and paper cutting to create old world book illustration and artwork. Papercutting, also known as Scherenschnitte, is an old Swiss and German artform. I’ve been paper cutting for over 30 years but I began to combine this art form with watercolor paintings to illustrate the storybooks I have been writing for over 11 years now. Inspired by the books, I then create the Book Characters in 3-d form using wool from my own little flock of sheep to needle-felt the faces and paws and feet. The bodies are stitched with Mohair and old vintage fabrics. All the bonnets and garments are stitched by hand and embellished with embroidery. They are designed to look like old vintage toys, and are meant for collectors.
My inspiration comes from my love of old storybooks, antiques, gardens and living on a century old farmstead amongst a multitude of farm animals from peacocks to donkeys.
